Microgrids and CHP- A Perfect Combination
A Highly Resilient, Operable Power System that provides Caribbean Islanders with the Ability to Sleep During a Hurricane!
The hurricane-hardened microgrid at Magens Junction gives true meaning to the word power "Resiliency." At the heart of the energy solution is a microturbine-based combined heat and power (CHP) solution paired with solar and batteries. The microgrid installation provides 100% of the complex's electrical power and hot water requirements allowing the site to be completely self-sufficient.
As part of their process in providing hurricane resilient power; Jackson Development Company is committed to doing power with the lowest carbon footprint but also the lowest cost to operate. When the opportunity arose to re-develop the defunct St. Thomas Dairy site with 108 affordable rental apartments, the company turned to E-Finity Distributed Generation, Capstone’s distributor for the Caribbean, midAtlantic and southeastern U.S. to deliver such a solution.
Let's Hear it for E-Finity, Capstone, and CHP on World Cogeneration Day!

This CHP solution manages energy costs, reduces emissions, and improves resilience for UK specialty feed manufacture
Working with Iona Capital, the Edina energy company will deliver and maintain the Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant at GLW Feeds, one of the largest independent livestock and specialty feed manufacturers in the UK. The funded solution comprises a 1.56MWe rated TCG 2020 V16 series MWM genset and waste heat boiler to supply electricity and heat directly to GLW Feeds, thus reducing their carbon footprint and controlling their energy costs.
Edina will design, engineer, and package the CHP engine within an attenuated acoustic enclosure before delivering to site and integrating within GLW’s existing mechanical and electrical infrastructure. Once operational, the CHP will provide energy cost efficiencies and lessen GLW’s carbon emissions by over 1,485 tonnes per year equivalent to removing 1,000 cars off the road.

Optimizing CHP using Sophisticated Modeling Software
Engine CHP can save up to 40% energy and CO2 emissions, depending on (i) building energy consumption (ii) site equipment technology, (iii) thermal plants efficiency used to stabilize the grid, and (iv) the existing electrical grid losses.
Sisterm celebrates their COGMCI software and its 20 years of developing software to design and simulate engine CHP systems. It joins the known science of building energy analysis, thermal equipment design and simulation methodologies to predict engine CHP performance on an annual basis. Several case studies were
developed. Most of the cases reveal that oversized engines
(able to export electricity to the grid) can save more energy
than baseload systems.
Happy World Cogeneration Day from Sisterm!
