Celebration Event for Microgrid Project at PSHQ
The Microgrid Project at PSHQ (Public Services Headquarters) in Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA, is a comprehensive initiative designed to ensure the resiliency of critical public services, even during major electric distribution system outages. PSHQ serves as the primary administrative hub for vital services such as transportation management, the County's Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security components, and the central police station for a significant portion of the County.
Combined Heat and Power (CHP) System
At the core of the Microgrid Project is an 800 kW Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system developed by 2G Energy Inc. This innovative technology enables simultaneous electricity and thermal energy generation, maximizing energy efficiency and minimizing waste. The CHP system ensures a reliable power supply, even during grid outages, keeping critical public services operational.
The project also include Solar Photovoltaic Canopies, Electric Vehicle Charging Stations, and a Cyber Security System.
Quadgeneration at this site is the process of creating electricity power generation resulting in downstream heating and cooling as well as CO2 recovery to put the fizz in coca-cola.
Liberty Coca-Cola Beverages (Liberty) joined with New York State and local elected officials, community stakeholders and businesses to break ground on the quadgeneration production plant at the local bottler’s Elmsford, New York facility. The plant will be the first of its kind in the country to generate its own electricity, heat, cooling and recover carbon dioxide (CO2) for beverage use.
Generating energy using combined heat and power technology will deliver significant carbon savings versus grid sourced electricity. Additionally, recovering CO2 further improves the environmental performance of the system by reducing the need to source it from the market. CO2 has been recovered from combined heat and power engines for many years. Initially for air enrichment in greenhouses, now moving towards more advanced amine systems. At Liberty Coca Cola CO2 will be recovered to beverage grade quality for the fizz in soda. Once cleaned, the beverage-grade CO2 will be used to carbonate beverages, eliminating hundreds of trucks annually that currently deliver it to the facility.
“If there is no fizz, there is no bizz”! – according to Liberty Coca Cola in New York.
