Today, Clarke Energy USA celebrates World Cogeneration Day at its successfully designed and commissioned combined heat and power (CHP) system in Clinton, Maine. This CHP solution complements a biogas upgrading facility in the area. Peaks Renewables, in collaboration with Maine’s dairy industry, developed renewable natural gas (RNG) locally at their anaerobic digestion facility.
This distributed power installation is anchored by a Clarke Energy assembled COE280NC CHP unit providing 280kW of electricity for site processes and 1.5 MMBtu of thermal energy needed to heat the anaerobic digesters on site producing the renewable biogas. In addition to the CHP unit, Clarke Energy has installed a 500kW Kohler Power back up gas-fueled generator to further increase the reliability of the entire system. The combination of these two units is an ultra-resilient on-site power solution that drives a biogas upgrading facility ultimately producing renewable natural gas.
Ryan Morris, Peaks Renewables commented: “Our anaerobic digestion facility will enable us to treat farm waste sustainably and in parallel generate renewable natural gas which will help to reduce carbon emissions. We selected Clarke Energy to supply both our CHP plant and back up gas generator to deliver fuel efficiency and resilience to our operations.”
Celebration Event for Martin Energy
FUEL: Propane
OUTPUT: 6.6MW
INDUSTRY: Bottling Plant
LOCATION: Cayey, Puerto Rico
CC1 Bottlers is a leading manufacturer, bottler, and distributor in Puerto Rico. Following Hurricanes Maria and Irma, Puerto Rico's infrastructure was severely damaged, including their electrical infrastructure.
During the humanitarian crisis, CC1 provided liquids to the people on the island. In the event of another storm, CC1 was seeking a solution that would not hinder their manufacturing process.
A new CHP system would allow them to ride through events of this nature in the future as well as improve efficiency of their manufacturing process.
Six Martin Energy CHP packages utilizing Siemens reciprocating engines were installed and can be fueled by propane or natural gas. The system was configured for Island Mode for utility independence when required. Martin Energy coordinated all of the controls for the new generation system for seamless remote operation with full automation and remote monitoring.
Celebration Event for Clarke Energy
Clarke Energy, a global leader in efficient distributed power generation solutions, has announced its involvement in two pivotal CHP projects working with Elsaco Electronic and INNIO Group. These initiatives mark a significant advancement in energy efficiency for the district energy networks in Arad and Constanța, Romania. Historically, these networks relied on steam turbines fuelled by heavy fuel oil and natural gas, with core systems dating back to the 1960s-1980s.
A cause for celebration because the projects mark a significant milestone for Clarke Energy, representing the first sales of Jenbacher J920 FleXtra engines in both Romania and Clarke Energy’s global operations. Eight J920 FleXtra CHP engines will deliver a total of 85 MW of electrical and 80 MW of thermal energy in the two cities. Five of the engines operating in Constanța will deliver ~53 MWe and 50 MWth energy, with the further three engines delivering ~32 MWe and 30 MWth in Arad.
Constituting two of the largest and innovative projects in Romania’s CHP sector, this technology will be used for the first time in the country. The equipment, supplied by INNIO Group, will operate on natural gas in a flexible configuration, designed to accommodate future use of a mix of green hydrogen and natural gas or biomethane. The engines form the heart of the rehabilitation schemes for the two power plants transforming them into high-efficiency engine-based CHP plants will reduce fuel consumption by up to 30% and significantly lower carbon emissions.

Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center, owned by Ryman Hospitality Properties and managed by Marriott International celebrates World Cogeneration Day.
Unison provides a resilient and cost-saving energy solution for their Denver, CO location. With 485,000 square feet of convention space, Gaylord Rockies is the largest combined hotel and convention center in the state, with 69 event rooms and 1,501 guest rooms, plus an expansion plan for 300 additional rooms. Given the hotel’s size and large-scale events, a power outage could have a major financial impact.
Unison Energy worked with Ryman and Marriott to install a more resilient energy solution: a combined heat and power (CHP)- based microgrid. Unison designed, built, and continues to own and operate the 4 MW system, which provides the facility with over 94% of its power needs. The system captures waste heat to provide hot water that offsets 94% of the site’s natural gas usage
On World Cogeneration Day, we celebrate the HBO Series which gave dramatic coverage of the beginning of the electric age as Thomas Edison presides over a crowd of participants on this important day of September 4, 1882.
HBO launched a series entitled "The Gilded Age" which features major milestones in history. Home Box Office, Inc. (HBO) is an American multinational media and entertainment company operating as a unit of Warner Bros. Discovery. Their Gilded Age series in Episode 7 shows a dramatic scene featuring the lighting up of the NY Times building using electricity from Edison's cogeneration plant on Pearl Street.

On World Cogeneration Day, Narrativio GmbH celebrates! Today is World Cogeneration Day! It's the day when we celebrate the simultaneous production of electricity and useful heat from a single energy source. But what should make us feel joyful about this?
Well, while traditional power plants release heat, the byproduct of electricity generation, into the environment, cogeneration systems capture and utilize it for heating buildings or even driving industrial processes. This makes cogeneration a lot more green than a classic power station. ♻️
♾️ Traditional power plants have an efficiency rate between 30 to 50% while cogeneration systems can achieve levels up to 90%! This means that less fuel is used to produce the same amount of energy, which reduces the overall environmental impact.
Here's some real-life examples of how cogeneration can also be sustainable:
🇺🇸 The University of California, San Diego microgrid includes a cogeneration plant that runs on natural gas and is integrated with solar panels.
🇩🇰 Copenhagen’s District Heating System is also an excellent example of cogeneration.
🇧🇪 Belgium has another example of innovation with the Roeselare Wastewater Treatment Plant where biogas is captured from sewage sludge and is used to power a cogeneration system.
Feel like celebrating cogeneration yet? We certainly do! 😉

Feast Magazine targets food and hospitality professionals, worldwide and celebrates World Cogeneration Day for its benefit to the industry.
Each year, on September 4th, the world comes together to celebrate World Cogeneration Day. This day commemorates the start-up date of the world’s first cogeneration unit at Pearl Street Station in New York City on September 4th, 1882.
World Cogeneration Day highlights the importance of cogeneration in producing reliable and efficient energy in the food and hospitality industries.
On World Cogeneration Day, RuAnn and Maddox Dairy Farms are celebrating cogeneration benefits!
In the heart of California's San Joaquin Valley, you'll find RuAnn and Maddox Dairy Farms, a family-owned and operated establishment. Beyond their dairy operations, the family manages a sprawling 10,000-acre estate, consisting of 5,000 acres dedicated to vineyards and almonds, and an additional 4,000 acres dedicated to supplying feed for their dairy operations. Renowned for its pedigree of Holsteins, the RuAnn facility also boasts a cutting-edge in vitro fertilization facility focused on genetic advancements.
The avus 500plus system, with a power output of 550 kW, is an exceptionally efficient engine that runs on biogas to generate both electricity and thermal energy. The customer harnesses this heat directly to warm the digestor, creating biogas, which, in turn, powers the engine. The electricity generated in this eco-friendly process is fed back into the grid for local utility consumption. A unique factor of the project is that it is integrated with a solar
field nearby to create a full-scale microgrid with the CHP as the backbone. By producing green energy, the customer qualifies for both state and federal tax incentives, allowing them to maintain substantially lower total operating costs. 2G provided a containerized solution with SCR, and biogas treatment system.
