Spain's Neoelectra Group celebrates resilient Sturgeon and Caviar sustainable fish farm

The Aran BioFarm Facility Highlights Resiliency of Cogeneration

The ARAN facilities are an example of sustainable industrial development. The plant includes a cogeneration facility with 5 Rolls Royce engines fueled with liquefied natural gas and a 1.2 MW turbine with a total authorized discharge power to the grid of 15 MW, a CO2 recovery plant with a recovery capacity of 21,000 tons/year and an associated fish farm where Caviar Nacarii is produced by hand, one of the most appreciated caviar in Europe.

ARAN is managed by qualified mechanics and electronics operators. Their involvement with the plant and the population where they reside is absolute. The company works closely with the municipality of Les and the Val d 'Aran government authorities to promote the environment, gastronomy and quality of tourism in the town.

Aran is an administrative entity in Lleida, Catalonia, Spain, consisting of the Aran Valley in the Pyrenees mountains, in the northwestern part of the province of Lleida. This valley constitutes the only contiguous part of Catalonia located on the northern side of the Pyrenees.

Woodstock Canada celebrates resilient Hospital CHP installation by Tedom

Tedom CHP Plant Highlights Resiliency of Cogeneration in Hospital Setting

The Tedom CHP unit was launched in July 2019. After 2 years of resilient operation, it has already covered 16,700 operation hours and produced more than 16,615,000 kWh of electric energy. As a result, the CHP unit saves approximately 8,500,000 kg of CO2 per year in comparison to the previous solution.

Hospitals are certainly a suitable place for installation of cogeneration technology. These facilities have high consumption of electricity and at the same time, due to their non-stop operation and building infrastructure they are able to effectively utilize heat. CHP units are a reliable and highly efficient source of electrical and thermal energy which can either be in constant operation or can be flexibly modified to handle unexpected situations.

Another great advantage that cogeneration brings is the possibility to operate the CHP unit in a so-called island mode; in other words, independently of the main power grid. This brings another security element to the entire energy system. In critical cases of an outage of the main power grid, the energy required by the hospital can be supplied by the Tedom CHP unit separately, which makes it more resistant to long-term outages.

Kinsley Celebrates Resiliency at Katz Jewish Community Center CHP Installation in New Jersey, USA

Promoting and enriching Jewish culture, heritage, values and lives, The Katz Jewish Community Center (JCC) provides outstanding educational, social and fitness/wellness programs for their community.

Kinsley Energy Systems of East Granby, CT, USA  partnered with Ecosave, Inc to conduct a comprehensive combined heat and power feasibility study at JCC, resulting in the recommendation and installation of a TEDOM CHP system.

Employing a TEDOM combined heat and power system to generate electricity and hot water offsets the need for expensive capital upgrades to hot water boilers. An attractive no-capital financing mechanism and a 40% cost incentive through the New Jersey Clean Energy Program provided for a rapid return on investment with reduced risk.

The TEDOM Cento T150 was commissioned in February 2020 and is performing with high efficiency and reliability. “The addition of CHP to the Katz JCC has greatly reduced their overall energy costs while simultaneously avoiding capital expenditure on end of life hot water boilers for space heating and domestic hot water,” said a spokesperson for Ecosave when asked about the project.

Vicinity Energy Celebrates Resiliency with Philadelphia "Green Steam" District Heating

Vicinity Energy Provides Resilient Solution While Helping Philadelphia "Go Green" with Biogenic Fuel

With 19 district energy systems in 12 major cities, Vicinity Energy is the leading provider of district energy solutions in the U.S.  By pairing combined heat and power (CHP) with its district energy networks, Vicinity produces low carbon thermal energy that can be delivered to a broad swath of buildings, such as hospitals and universities, while generating significant carbon reduction benefits.

Vicinity has integrated a unique biogenic fuel derived from waste vegetable oil and fats discarded by the food service industry into its fuel mix to replace its back-up supply of conventional fuel oil use. The project, which has already begun in Philadelphia as of spring 2021, is creating a more sustainable environment for the community and offering a circular solution. The wastes discarded by Philadelphia’s local restaurants are now being used to heat and cool businesses and institutions in the same city. In other words, Vicinity Energy is turning Philadelphians’ french fries into fuel that powers many of the city’s own businesses. When a community can recycle its own waste to keep warm through the long winter months - that’s the definition of resilience.

This project builds upon Vicinity's existing work in Philadelphia, allowing the company to continue supplying resilient and sustainable energy solutions to the city. Additionally, thanks to the ability to integrate various fuel sources into Vicinity's CHP systems, facilities connected to the grid receive increased resilience due to the network not being constrained to one fuel source.

Clarke Energy Providing Resilient Service and Power to UK Children’s Hospital

Clarke Energy’s service team recently completed a major engine overhaul of an INNIO Jenbacher engine installed at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), London. The CHP plant at the hospital was originally commissioned by Clarke Energy in 2015, where energy resilience is essential for the site’s local load and treating patients 24/7. Electricity is used supporting lighting, medical equipment including ventilators and other important local energy users. They also have need for heating, to keep patients warm, for cleaning of bedding and for sterilisation of equipment.

The engine installed is unusually positioned on the roof the building at the famous children’s hospital. As GOSH is located in a busy part of central London, road closures were required to remove the engine safely from the roof. Great resiliency was shown by all the Clarke Energy service department involved in the planning, removal, and safe return of the engine. and return it to the Clarke Energy Overhaul and Repair Centre. The J420 gas engine has now been rebuilt and delivered back to GOSH and is sitting proud back in place on the roof of the hospital ready for the next stage of its lifecycle.
